It is never too late to start exercising

As we age we tend to slow down, thinking that it is appropriate since our bodies are weaker and our stamina isn’t what it used to be.  And why is that? It’s not our age it is our attitude and old fashioned thinking. The population as a whole is getting older the thought of slowing down is not only questioned but also ignored by folks who are getting older.  Exercising is as important at a later age as it is when you are younger.
What type of exercise is appropriate?
Probably the best overall exercise to do or at least to start out with is walking.  Doing aerobics like walking or biking or swimming keeps the heart pumping and gives you stamina and energy that you makes the rest of the day easier to get through. Another great advantage of walking is what it does to your mental outlook.  According to an article in the LAtimes dot com doing a repetitious exercise like walking “stimulates the brains neurocircuits” which in turn causes activity in many parts of the brain.
The other type of exercise that should be undertaken is anaerobes or strength and resistance training. It used to be that most people wouldn’t even consider lifting weight at an older age but now the idea is highly recommended with health experts and the medical field.  You wouldn’t think that you could receive any benefits from strength training when you are older and your muscles aren’t as strong but you can. Not only can you regain muscle but you can also help maintain your bone structure as well.  The great part about strength or lifting weights is that you don’t have to lift a lot of weights or spend a good deal of money in a gym to get results.  Start slow and gradually add weight that you can handle.
Exercising alone with good nutrition is the keystone to living a healthier and happier life. Make sure to check with your doctor before starting any exercise program.
